The Need

 

RSA Films is a customer that holds a special place in our hearts and exemplifies how WILL Interactive meets the unique needs of small businesses.
 
RSA Films was founded by directors Ridley and Tony Scott. RSA Film’s commercial, film, tv, music video, and VR production work is among the most significant in the history of media itself. From the “1984” Apple commercial to Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator (I & II), Thelma & Louise, Black Hawk Down, The Martian… the credits can’t be fully listed here. The reverence WILL’s creative staff has for RSA’s continuing genius can’t be over-stated.
 
For all its success, RSA is, in fact, a small business of only several dozen employees and concerns much like every other small business in America.
 
RSA Films is in a state with mandatory training requirements. Their HR Department is only a handful of people and requires an easy-to-use learning management system. Like many small businesses, RSA has a blend of owners, leaders, full and part-time employees, and independent contractors. Uniquely, they also have extremely gifted artists with no formal supervisor training but who may effectively supervise thousands of contractors and temporary employees on film sets.

The Answer

 

RSA Films chose the Common Ground series of harassment and abusive conduct training products. Though RSA Films had created some of the world’s most amazing films, tv, commercials, and music videos, their limited roster of HR personnel are more familiar with staffing up film productions than collecting completion certificates for harassment training among permanent staff.
 
WILL provided an easy, economical way to get RSA people through required training and a learning platform that quickly provided reports, certificates of completion, and even automatically sent reminders to non-completers.

There are often quickly-assembled teams of strangers working extreme hours together, vulnerable populations of underpaid subordinates, very quick on-boarding (or none at all), lots of money and careers at stake, several tiers of contractors and subcontractors working alongside one another, unorthodox chains of command and employee relationships, very successful artists suddenly thrust into positions with almost dictatorial power, and, sometimes, an absence of clear HR and complaint-reporting structures.

RSA Film’s small employee population prohibits drawing any statistical conclusions about impact in their case, but the Common Ground Business courseware they deployed has been evaluated methodically. With a total trainee population of nearly 10 million people to date, an analysis of learner evaluations demonstrates significantly positive results related to knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral intent, along with striking levels of learner satisfaction.

Employees demonstrate improvement in knowledge – for example, there is a 30.33% increase in learners correctly identifying that work-related unlawful sexual harassment must meet the criteria of severe and pervasive.

Employees demonstrate improvement in attitudes, ownership, and agency – for example, an increase of 14.94% in those strongly agreeing with the statement “I feel I share in the responsibility for the behavior of other employees” and an increase of 12.5% in those who strongly agree with the statement “I feel empowered to speak up.”
 
Employees demonstrate improvements in behavioral intent – with 6.22% more employee respondents strongly agreeing with the statement “If I saw a coworker being repeatedly subjected to petty, irritating harassments, I would either intervene or report it” and a 5.7% growth in those strongly agreeing with the statement “If I learned that a subordinate was recently harassed in a manner that was either severe or pervasive, I would intervene and report it.”
